Today is the start of a new year. I worked yesterday at KweiFei and we had a really long week. Being a Suichan Chinese food place, Christmas time is one of the busiest times of the year. Unfortunately, this also means that I was not able to go home for the holidays to NY. I definitely missed not being there for Christmas and not seeing snow. However, we did have a quiet christmas here in Charleston which was very relaxing and very enjoyable.
Anyway, New Year’s Eve, I worked a long day and then joined my coworkers at Bar George across the street. Bar George has some of the BEST cocktails on James Island and maybe even in Charleston. I had a delicious Bellefonte consisting of rum, compari, pineapple juice, lemon juice. This drink was pink and frothy. Sweet, with a hint of bitterness, and very refreshing. A perfect drink to end 2022.
Fatty’s Beerworks
To start 2023, Kelly and I went to Fatty’s Beerworks in North Charleston. We had two drinks each and worked on getting this year off to a strong start, writing recipes and learning about how to expand this blog. Kelly had a delicious and refreshing pilsner called “High Style” which is a crisp and smooth pilsner with and extra kick at the end from the Tettnang. She then enjoyed a strawberry lemonade Spritzer. This fresh and light hard seltzer started out a pretty bubblegum pink color and then change to a light yellow color in the light. Very cool.
I enjoyed a Sour DIPA called “Ataraxia” with a blueberry, cinnamon and vanilla flavoring. This was a bright red color and was amazing. I loved how light the sour was but I struggled to taste the cinnamon. Then I tasted the “Frontiersman” which was a piney, west coast style pale ale with old school bitterness.
Munkle Brewery
After this, we moved on to Munkle Brewing which is one of my favorite breweries in Charleston. Kelly enjoyed the Munkle Blonde Ale and the Royal Brune. The blonde was revitalizing and fresh whereas the Royal Brune was a strong ale with blackberries and cherries. Delicious for the new year. I tried the Dinner Bell Dubbel which was a Belgian Dubbel, my first choice since this is my favorite type of beer. My second choice: the 3rd Floor Tripel, a Belgian Triple. All of them were amazing! We also enjoyed some delicious BBQ from a pop out tent out front.
Polar Plunge
From here, we headed down to Folly Beach to do our Polar Plunge. Kelly and I jumped into the Atlantic Ocean with air temperature in the upper 50s°F, cloudy and a slight misting. The water temperature was nearly the same at 54°F. This was exciting and invigorating! An excellent start to 2023.
January 2nd! I wrote a fun new Fruit Ring Cereal Cookie recipe. Check it out here!
