Ingredients
Ingredients for the Apples:
7 to 10mediumApplesyour favorites, but I used Ginger Crisp and Gala
Peel the apples and slice thinly. Place them into a mixing bowl.
Add 1 teaspoon each of the cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ginger powder as well as 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Add 1 cup of warm apple cider to the mixing bowl.
Mix gently to ensure all the apples are thoroughly coated. I typically use my hands, but you could use a rubber spatula or a wooden spoon. Set aside.
For the Streusel:
In separate mixing bowl, include 1 cup each of sugar and flour.
Add 1/4 cup oats and 3/4 teaspoon salt and Stir.
Cube the 8 tablespoons of cold, unsalted butter butter, cutting it into smaller easier workable pieces. Work the butter into the flour mixture using your hands, or a fork, until coarse crumbs form. Do not over work.
Prepare to Bake:
Add oil or butter a 8'' square or 9'' x 13'' rectangle baking dish.
Spread the apples evenly in the baking dish. Cover apples with streusel.
Cook for about 1 hour. Remember to cover with foil if its getting too brown too early.
It is finished when you start to see nice, almost caramel-like bubbles moving around the edges and the topping has a nice lightly golden brown color to it.
